Camp Tidy isn’t a place, it’s a transformative experience

Camp Tidy’s Chief Counselor, Alyssa, believes that home is where the heart is. And like all relationships, sometimes things get messy. Before founding Camp Tidy, Alyssa worked as a graphic designer, trained chef, project manager, and communications and branding executive. Her passion project – tearing down a villa in France to the studs and reimagining it – was the inspiration for launching Camp Tidy. She is a discerning editor with a strong eye for design and is nutso for choosing materials that are beautiful and easy to clean.

Alyssa’s organizing story is really about her mother, Jackie. As the eldest of six, Jackie became the default homemaker, understanding the value of maintaining a tight ship. When she had her own children, she devised ingenious strategies for keeping herself sane, such as Hellerware plates, to easily identify which kid left a dirty dish in front of the TV. Even the dog was hypoallergenic. Point being: Jackie made it easy on herself and, in doing so, she passed along a sense of order to her children. These tactics were not extraordinary, they were simply clever. She was not fussy and she was not a crazy person; she just had better things to do with her time, like growing peonies in the backyard.

Why Camp Tidy? Going off to camp runs the gamut of emotions — it's faced with a bit of dread; it goes by way faster than you expected; it's more fun than you thought; and you return home changed. Camp Tidy serves to reframe the perception of tidying from a chore to something joyful. Getting organized can lead to a sense of ease and pride, making the journey of tidying as rewarding as the destination.
